Government Relations
The Government Relations team works at local, state and national levels to advance good public policy that directly or indirectly improves the health of our members, patients and the community. We do this by building strong relationships with public policy makers, and by educating them about such things as:
  • Our mission
  • How various policies under consideration would affect our members, patients and community
  • How those policies might impact our overall ability to deliver high quality, cost-effective healthcare
Our team also works extensively to build community consensus on good health policy. We do this in conjunction with other members of various state and federal trade associations, as well as other community organizations. One of our recent involvements that we are proud of is helping to pass the Freedom to Breathe Act. In 2007, Minnesotans passed a statewide smoking ban in all public workplaces including bars and restaurants. HealthPartners supported this legislation and played an instrumental role in helping move the bill through our state legislature. More than 100 HealthPartners employees participated in the Smoke Free Day at the Capitol in January 2007, speaking personally with their legislators about the importance of a statewide ban on smoking.

Because HealthPartners is a multi-faceted healthcare organization, practically every public policy position dealing with healthcare affects our organization in some fashion, making our work complex, challenging and exciting.
