DistinctionsSM is not just another health plan. HealthPartners uses the industry’s most sophisticated methods to let you easily learn which providers have the best cost and quality ratings. This helps you make an informed decision when you want the best care but also want to save money.
Distinctions also gives you freedom. Choose from any provider in one of America's largest networks. And you don’t need a referral to see specialists within the network.
No matter where you live, work or travel in the United States, you have access to high-quality providers — we're among the few plans that give you access to CIGNA HealthCare’s vast national network. - Choose the providers and doctors you want
- Discover how your providers rate on quality and cost
- Lower out-of-pocket costs for top-tier providers
How Distinctions works You can see any of the doctors, clinics and hospitals — even specialists — in our large network without referrals. Any time you need care, you choose who you want to see. - When you receive care, you will pay part of the expense through an out-of-pocket charge (either a copay, coinsurance or a deductible, depending on your plan). The amount of your out-of-pocket costs depends on the service (for example, an office visit may have a different copay than an urgent care visit). The amounts of your copays, coinsurance or deductible can be found in the summary of benefits you received from your employer.
Keep in mind that the benefit level of your provider determines your cost. Providers in benefit level 1 have the lowest out-of-pocket cost.
You have in-network coverage when you are traveling for work or pleasure through CIGNA HealthCare’s national network. You also have the option of seeing out-of-network providers at a higher copay.
Benefit levels help you save money and get the best care The Distinctions plan encourages you to see the best providers. Here's how: - Providers are analyzed and assigned to benefit levels.
- The best performing providers (those who deliver the most effective care at the best overall cost) are assigned to benefit level 1.
- All other providers are assigned to benefit level 2.
- You may see any provider you want. Your out-of-pocket cost will be lower if you choose a benefit level 1 provider over a benefit level 2 provider. (Some plans have a third benefit level, and providers in that benefit level would have the highest out-of-pocket cost.)
How are providers analyzed? HealthPartners uses the most comprehensive standards, including patient outcomes, overall cost of treatment and we even work with providers to improve care for our members. Another important measure is patient satisfaction. If patients are not satisfied with their care, providers cannot be in the top benefit level. Visit our Consumer Tools page for more on our cost and quality ratings.
